What is Maghrib time?

Maghrib is the fourth of the five daily prayers. Its time begins at sunset, once the sun has fully disappeared below the horizon, which is why it is also the time Muslims break their fast during Ramadan.

Because it follows sunset, Maghrib changes every day and from one city to the next. In the UK it can be before 16:00 in December and after 21:30 in June, and it moves by about an hour when the clocks change.

This site shows the Maghrib period as running until Isha on the selected timetable. Scholars differ on exactly when the Maghrib time ends, so for religious guidance follow your local mosque or scholar.

How the times are calculated

Every time is calculated from the city’s coordinates and local timezone using established astronomical formulas. The default for UK cities is the Muslim World League method, and you can switch to ISNA, Egyptian, Karachi, Umm al-Qura or Moonsighting Committee, or to Hanafi Asr, on any city page.
